Juliette et chocolat

So, I didn't manage to go to Montreal and eat my heart out this summer. But, I did get a little bit of Montreal delivered to me in the form of a brownie!

So chocolatey. Soft and delicious.

I'll definitely have to check this place out next time I hit the Mtl.

Cheers to Lauren and John for the domestic import!

Rockaberry

Rockaberry Café (4275, rue Saint-Denis, Montréal, Québec)
514-844-9479
Hours:
11 a.m. - ?? daily.

I finally found some of my Montreal food pics from I don't know when.

Anyway, Saint Denis Street has got to be one of my favourite streets for food in Montreal. Admittedly, I'm not super familiar with all of Montreal, but walking along rue St-Denis makes me happy. It has all sorts of restaurants, less people than on St. Catherine, and less tourists to ask me where Super Sexe is.

Rockaberry specializes in pies. So we ordered pies.

Most notably to me were the cheese pies. I had never tried a cheese pie before this visit. They're sort of like softer, creamier, bloated cheesecake. I liked the texture and the taste of my Oreo cheese pie, and I also liked how it looked pouffy. I randomly have cravings for it, but I have not yet found a Toronto equivalent of this Montreal cafe to fulfill my cheese pie yearnings (not that I've been trying that much, but still).

Would I return? Yessssss.

Total damage: can't remember.

Cheers to Mia for showing me the way to cheese pies!

Première Moisson

Première moisson (895 De la Guachetière Street West, Montreal, Quebec)

I saw this spiked, little chocolate thing a couple of years ago but I didn't get it then. Every subsequent trip to Montreal, I tried looking for it, but I had forgotten where I had seen it. Several years later, I realized it was at the Première Moisson by the train station (Gare centrale).

I had this dessert a long time ago, so I don't remember what it tasted like, but I do remember that it was delicious! And that it was difficult for me to find the seating area in that weird hall thing. That may have been because I have invisible horse blinders around my face.

Would I return? I'd go back and try other stuff. That's especially considering the items I tried at their other location in Jean-Talon Market were very tasty.

La salle à manger

La salle à manger (1302, avenue Mont-Royal est, Montréal, Québec)
514-522-0777

Some sort of salmon dish?
I don't remember much from this dish, except that it was okay enough so that the next time we were in Montreal, we didn't mind going to this restaurant again.

The power went out before we got our food, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. Staff came by with candles for our table.

I feel like the atmosphere is pretty casual.

Would I return? I might.

Total damage: approximately $50 for my meal (where I also ordered an eau-de-vie).

Drinks!

Still awesome: Grey Goose La Poire.

Some Bailey's coffee hot chocolate concoction.

Apricot wheat ale purchased in Montreal.
Yes, there is a hint of apricot.

Aphrodisiaque stout

It was super thick. Renée and Josie couldn't handle how strong it was. I liked it for what it was, but I probably wouldn't have been able to finish the whole bottle. There's a bitter chocolate taste to it that's kind of interesting.

Total damage of the Aphrodisiaque: $2.59 + applicable taxes.

Jackson Triggs Malbec Merlot courtesy of Simon and Renée

The red wine went down very easily and was quite inoffensive. Also not dry at all.
The grocery brand hickory sticks were also pretty good.

Jumex Guanabana nectar courtesy of Josie.
I can definitely see how this is nectar versus juice. It seems to have stronger fruit flavours.

Pinnacle 2007 ice cider purchased in Montreal from le Marché des sauveurs in Jean-Talon Market.
It has a strong apple taste. It's slightly sweet, and a bit on the sour side. It tends to leave a dry feeling in my mouth, but for its price, I appreciate it. I'd call it poor man's ice wine.

Probably not meant to be drank in such a full glass.
Real cork!

Drinks and Snacks

Drinks from Montreal! I picked these up from le Marché des sauveurs when I was last in Jean-Talon Market.

Casey mentioned that he had this in Vancouver and that it was good.
It was $9.99 + taxes for a case of six.
The wheat ale is quite fruity, ever so slightly bitter, and very tasty.

I also picked up a random bottle of "Belgian" beer from Brasseurs de Montreal to try.

$1.99 + taxes.
I didn't quite notice coriander, but I still liked it. It had good flavour without being overbearing. When I first tasted it, it reminded me of a more sophisticated version of Molson Canadian. (Yeah, I'm not a beer aficionado.)

Snacks from Loblaws!

There are a bunch of new President's Choice products at Loblaws, and Josie decided to try the multigrain tortilla chips (and share them with me).
Josie liked them better than Doritos. I thought they had a good amount of seasoning and they didn't taste multigrain. They tasted like a tomato version of these Mexicasa chips I had more than a decade ago (and haven't found again since) in that they don't need to go with salsa due to their generous seasoning. They went well with the white beer.

Onion ring chips.
These crispy and light snacks were a part of my childhood. I can't not like them.

Snacks were courtesy of Josie. Much thanks to her for sharing!

Mega Random Food Post

Hello friends,

Welcome back. It's been a while.

Some OCD arranged koala cookies!
These Japanese chocolate-filled koala cookies are awesome! Just look at the different pictures!
These are great snacks for work or for school. Family pack rocks! (approximately $8)
My other bag had ninjas.
I microwaved pieces of milk chocolate and milk. Then I added instant coffee and topped it off with Bailey's. Yum!
More koala cookies!
Work dinner:
I quite like the pasta.

Another work dinner:
The chicken wasn't as exciting as the last time we were served chicken.

Tim Hortons chocolate danish ($2.51):

Josie wanted to make ratatouille:
Took forever in the oven. It also leaked a lot of water at the bottom. In the end, it was tasty enough though.
Tuna, artichoke, and anchovy pasta salad. Another dish made by Josie and me. Pretty good! I liked it.

McCain's rising crust pizza:
It was on sale at the grocery store for $3 or $5 and it was quite comparable to the Delissio pizzas.

I made pie!
I found the easiest pie crust online and added lots of sugar. I burnt it a bit, but it was still okay for the most part. The crust is not like normal apple pie crust. It's a bit more crunchy, but Sheila liked it.
Out of laziness I did nothing to the apples before I put it in the pie except peel and cut them. And added sugar. Always with the adding of sugar.
Sheila's eyes lit up when she saw the sign for smores pies at McDonald's. The crust isn't the same as their apple pie, and I actually thought it tasted a bit... lardy.
Leftover thanksgiving food from my aunt!
I like how neatly packaged it is.

That was a table made rich with alcohol:
Premium Canadian Club is way smoother than Chivas Regal. Grey Goose is the smoothest vodka that I know. The pear flavoured one is delicious.

Chinese food from the food court under North York Centre. So cheap and plentiful!
There was a giant Ferrero Rocher tree at the Eaton Centre around Christmas last year.
They were giving away samples of their new dark Ferrero balls.

It tasted like heaven, and was worth the line-up.
Egg salad sandwich from Michel's Baguette.
The bread and ingredients tastes fresh, but it's sill overpriced for a sandwich.

Yet another work dinner:

Jo made me take a picture of this at Loblaw:

I bought these not realizing that they were the wasabi flavoured version:
My nose started running. :| Also, the normal version doesn't usually clump up like that.
Banana bread:

I laughed so hard at this sign:
Buffet King food:
It's not the best Chinese buffet out there.

Tried to make apple crisp using this recipe I found onlin.
Tasted like raw oatmeal, except for that glazed-looking part on the side.

Banana bread ingredients:

Super moist banana bread. The recipe with sour cream was the most moist.
Pizza chips!
Est Asie (1320 Sainte-Catherine Street East, Montreal, Quebec)
I got the orange beef. All I remember was that it was quite large.

Lemon pepper chips courtesy of Sheila:
The first bite really was a kicker. I think it involves salt and vinegar seasoning.

I think this is from Kuni Sushi Ya all you can eat buffet:
Not the freshest sushi I had.

Breakfast buffet at some hotel in Montreal. I can't remember which one.

Clock Tower Brew Pub (575 Bank Street, Ottawa, Ontario)
Happy hour specials include mussel plates and beer. They brew their own, but nothing stands out in my memory as this was a very long time ago.

Free President's Choice samples: chicken, some spread, and italian soda. Italian soda wasn't bad.
Um... I don't know.
