Homemade Goodness and Cake

Dinner at Jess's. Meat, potatoes, and green beans. What's not to like?

Cake! I believe this was a hazelnut cake by Dufflet.

Wasn't as moist as I wanted it to be, but it satisfied my cake craving.

Cassava cake made by Ludie at work. It was still hot when she brought it. Hot and delicious!

Random Food

Hamburger Helper, made by Andrew.

Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls
They have this distinct doughy taste that I find a little odd, if not nostalgic.

A cracker, cheese and deli meat dinner from Walmart. Not everyone can afford to eat fancy food every day. It went well with the green tea and Chivas, though.

Josie's crackers of choice: Ritz. Mine: Triscuit (cracked pepper and olive oil).

My lazy way of making macaroni and cheese involves throwing cheese on cooked macaroni and baking.

Frozen stuffed chicken breasts.
These taste better than they look. They'd look better if they didn't explode from the top.

Hot pot at Sheila and Jon's place.
Nothing beats a Jesus table full of food. People (friends) around you will cook the food in boiling water and hopefully serve it to you.

There were these cool fish-shaped fish cakes that cleared out fast.

My favourite brand of instant noodles in cup form:
For some reason, the noodles taste different in the cup... it's probably all in my head.

This package tasted like imitation Nongshim instant noodles.
They were also spicy and delicious.
I added the soy beans because I felt like I needed to eat some vegetables.

Asparagus, mushrooms, and penne.
It's plain, but easy to make.

The chicken was leftover from the whole roasted chicken that I had purchased.
I like soft carrots, so I boil them until they're mushy.

Fried rice: with "holiday meat". Sadly, I used imitation SPAM.
Fried rice is best made with leftover rice that has less moisture than freshly cooked rice.

My version of salad.
I add fruit and cheese to spinach so that I don't have to buy salad dressing.

French toasted peanut butter sandwich.
I made it super eggy. And again, I drizzled sweet liquor over it in the pan because I didn't have syrup. Works for me. No playful face on it because I didn't have any bananas.

Meat and Potatoes

Andrea performing invasive garlic injection to the pot roast.

Yellow Tail rosé brought over by Andrea and Kevin.
Very strong strawberry flavour.

Meat, potatoes and corn.

Potatoes full of flavour: rosemary, oilive oil, and garlic.

A fine meal indeed. Andrea insisted on tzatziki with the potatoes.

With mushroom gravy: part mix, part fresh mushrooms and pan drippings.

Two of us voted for medium rare, and the other two were for rare. I think it was more medium than anything, but I was quite happy with the food nonetheless.

Super thanks to Lorne for sharing the roast and super thanks to Andrea for doing most of the cooking as the rest of us just watched.

Breakfast for Dinner

Apparently, someone had the idea of breakfast food for dinner. No one objected.

Roast Chicken

Roast chicken and vegetables

The chicken came out pretty good! It was quite moist and not overcooked. The sauce was a bonus too. Unfortunately, the vegetables were a bit on the raw side.

Cooked by Andrew (and the oven). He said it involved no more than seasoning the chicken, adding vegetables, and shoving it in the oven for 45 minutes or so. And he made Swiss Chalet sauce too!

Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd's pie
By Andrew

I liked the golden brown potato top. Cheers to pies with meat and potatoes!

Sausage and Beans

Made by Andrew.

The sausage was very salty - even for me. But it was super juicy.

Orzo

Another creation by Andrew. Orzo with roasted peppers and spinach. I liked it, and it seemed pretty healthy compared to what I normally eat.

Home Cooking

Cooked Meals and Random Food and Drink (San Jose/San Francisco or that vicinity, California)

My ingenious packaging...

... of beer to bring on the plane. I made good use of old tennis ball canisters.

Miller Genuine Draft.
I am unimpressed with its lack of flavour.

Steaks by Casey.
Wow! So tender and amazing! He should make these steaks all the time. I seriously have not had such a tender and delicious piece of meat in a long while, not even from a fancy restaurant. So good.

Oatmeal breakfast by Casey.
... it's oatmeal.

Steak and egg by Casey.
That steak is always awesome!

Apple slices because we're healthy like that.

Meat and rice by Casey.
That meat was super flavourful. In a good way.

More oatmeal with some brown sugar.

Milk tea?

Picnic meat at the beach! Courtesy of Casey.

Makeshift salad from spinach, pine nuts, sesame oil, and crumbled cheese.
Not terrible, but sesame oil is really strong.

Thanks to Casey for doing all the cooking and preparations of the food in this post! And again, those steaks were amazing.
