The Cantina

Tomorrow is the last day!
Campbell's newest marketing strategy:
I thought the ramen and roasted beer can cream of chicken soup were lacking in flavour. Also, I think just having regular ol' chicken and beer would taste better. The creamy tomato black bean taco soup tasted like... well, exactly how it sounded. My favourite was the Thai chicken and rice khao soi. It had the most flavour, and stood out to me. I thought these things were heat and serve, but apparently you have to add other ingredients/work. Oh well. Free soup. Can't complain.

Also free, was a little grab bag that was handed to me as I was leaving. It contained two cans of Campbell's Star Wars pasta, a soup kit, and a recipe booklet on how to make the four soups that were served. I'm staring at the soup kit and wondering if I can just add it to the cans of pasta in broth...

Anyway, closing time for free soup is tomorrow, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

FREE BEER

I've heard talks of free beer being handed out around downtown Toronto for the past two weeks or so, but I haven't come across such a magical location. Until today. Walking along Queen Street West, we spotted a medium-sized queue of people. Instinctively, I knew it was going to be good. I was right. Free Alexander Keith's (with a valid 19+ photo identification)!

It's a double pack! :D

I know they were giving away free Keith's last week too in celebration of Alexander Keith's birthday, and I guess the celebrating didn't end. I've also heard previous talk of free Carlsberg and Stella Artois within the last two weeks. What is going on?

Anyway, that double pack made my day. I don't know what the usual time for free beer is, but I was there around 6:30 p.m. and the wait was less than two minutes.

McBiscuit

A promotion involved a free McDonald's breakfast biscuit sandwich (which isn't actually called McBiscuit, but they should've labelled it as such).

Sausage 'n egg biscuit.

The egg is scrambled and folded, unlike in the McMuffins. That makes the height of this monster a couple jaw clicks taller. The buttermilk biscuit is very fluffy and buttery. It is so buttery that even though I only held the sandwich through the paper, my hands had shiny visible grease drops when I finished eating. Either the paper is that porous or the grease is that potent. The first bite is heart attack awesomeness, but I felt like I needed to run a marathon when I was done... or take a nap.

Would I order this again? Probably not... unless it was free. I'm good with the Sausage McMuffin with egg combo (#2). This calorie-laden biscuit thing is a whole other monster that I'm not ready to subject my body to regularly.

Total damage: free, thanks to their promotion!

Harvey's

416-595-9224

Great Canadian burger.

It's thicker than their regular burgers. It still has the bouncy from frozen texture, but it's not bad for fast food. I prefer Harvey's burgers over most other fast food joints.

There's currently a promotion for a chance to win 4 Great Canadian Combos. It involves telling them what you like most about Harvey's burgers. Winners daily until February 28, 2011. If you're really hungry, I say go for it.

Total damage for my burger: free thanks to Sheila's coupon donation!

McDonald's Coffee

McDonald's coffee is free until November 28.
It actually tastes okay, but it did nothing for me in terms of keeping me awake. The minute I finished the coffee, I passed out. They might water it down for the promotion. Or maybe it was decaf! :o
